Literacy programming rooted in community, designed to reach children and families where they are.
Our programs are built around the belief that literacy thrives in community. We do not just hand out books. We create experiences, equip caregivers, and show up consistently in the spaces where families already are.
We partner with schools, libraries, community centers, and cultural organizations to host interactive reading experiences. Our author visits bring the story off the page and into conversation, giving children a chance to engage with literacy in a dynamic, memorable way.
Programming is tailored to the age group and setting, from picture book read-alouds for early learners to reflective discussions with middle and high school students about resilience, narrative, and identity.
Caregivers are a child's first and most important teachers. Our family literacy workshops create space for parents and guardians to build confidence around reading aloud, selecting affirming books, and creating consistent literacy habits at home.
Sessions are designed to be accessible, welcoming, and practical, offered in community spaces familiar to the families we serve. We remove barriers, not add them.
Access to books is not a given for every family in our community. We work to place culturally affirming, age-appropriate titles directly in the hands of children who would otherwise go without, with priority given to titles featuring Black and brown protagonists.
Our own published titles serve as the foundation of this work, and we are building partnerships that will allow us to expand what we can offer.
While introducing a children's book to high school sophomores might initially seem unconventional, it served as the perfect model for their final project, where they must interview someone who has overcome adversity and write a narrative sharing that story. I was incredibly impressed by how deeply the students engaged. Beyond reinforcing key curriculum concepts like literary theme and the importance of literacy, the visit offered them a powerful, real-world lesson on resilience and determination.
We welcome school and institutional partnerships. To request a program or author visit, please contact us.
Our founder's published titles are not incidental to our mission. They are central to it. Each book was written with underserved communities in mind, featuring Black protagonists in stories of resilience, imagination, and emotional growth.
